Typically the last step for any project is to output the media. First, you need to render the final clip and then save it to the Library as most media management tasks are done from the Clip Library.
1. Start in the EditDesk with your final timeline.
2. Display the Record player, ESC.
3. Work in Record Timeline view F5.
4. Click on the Timeline Selector to select the entire top layer (little square button on the left).
5. Click Process.
Save your final clip to the Library:
6. Be sure that your “Smoke_Essentials” library is selected in the Library box.
7. Choose Clip in the Item Box.
8. Select the timeline clip on the EditDesk.
9. Press Save.
10. Enter a name for the new Record Area folder, such as “Final_Timeline”

Note that you can render clips inside the Library as well; inside the "Library" look under "Tools", select "Rendering Tools".
In Smoke, you have two options to send media out of the system: Output Clip to a tape (VTR out) and Export Image (file out). In this case we will export a movie, you can also export image sequences.
1. Access the Clip Library by clicking on the Library box on the EditDesk.
In this case “Smoke_Essentials”.
2. Select the clip you want to output to file: select your final timeline.
3. Click on the I/O tab.
4. Press Export Image.
The Export Image module is display.
5. In the File Format box, choose the file type to which you want to export.
You can select to export a file sequence or a movie.
6. For example, select Quicktime.
7. Set the export options such as codec and resize if needed.
8. In the browser, navigate to the location where you want the final clip to be saved.
9. Export the clip in the background by choosing Add to Queue and Execute under the Background Operations.
Note that the background export is the only option available when exporting to QuickTime.
This will allow you to continue working while the clip is exporting.
Other image formats can be exported right away by clicking Export or by using background export as well.
10. Swipe left to view and manage the task list.
11. Click Exit Export Image
12. You can manage the background tasks by clicking on Background Tasks inside the Library.
You can also toggle the menu with Ctrl+0 from anywhere in Smoke.
13. You will find the result clip in the chosen location when the export is completed

To export a clip with an embedded alpha channel, you select two clips: the first one is the front clip and the second one will serve as the matte. Note that not every format support alpha channels.
