So here i am. :) OK. Hey team, I have just finished university and i have used autodesk the entire time i was on the course. I did my dissertation on workflow and how autodesk talks to each other to convert and read files. But now i have come across a problem. Now i have moved from the UK to Germany working for a company which uses a host of softwares. Including Maya, Alias and Showcase. My Problem: Ok, so the company get Data from a heap of car manufacturing companies and use all the softwares to convert data and use softwares as bridges to others. (hope that makes sense). Example of issue - I get data from Audi its a Maya .Mb file and i need it as FBX to import into another software lets say Maxon C4D when you do a direct import as FBX the normals are not correct. So.. I export to Autodesk Packet File to then move into showcase ‘2011’ which carrys over ‘materials’ which then can be exported as .FBX and when taken into C4D the file is correct AND the materials are there. Now we have just installed Showcase ‘2013’ and the model sits in the software ok. BUT materials seem to be there as well but SUPER SHINY MATERIALS *which is different( and then when exported to FBX from showcase - I can then go to C4D then MATERIALS are there in the materials libary BUT not applied the model. This seems to be only changing from 2011 showcase to 2013??? Why is this? And it is not maya because i have exported in 2011, 2012 and 2013 maya. Its showcase? Is there setting different which i need to change or alter? Hope to get some help :) Thanks for looking Dan. Recently ive been having problems with showcase when saving movie files running out of hard drive space as its trying to save onto the SSD. I know that showcase outputs pre-renders into a file called "Autodesk Showcase 2012 Working Directory-0" in my temps folder and i want to know if there is any way to change this. On top of the space issue comes the wearing of the SSD if its continuesly writing into the temp folder with large files only to remove them onto another drive. It does surprise me that there's no option in the program to change the pre-render file like in sony vegas. Note that Showcase its self isnt on the SSD. Hopefully someone will be able to point me the right way to solve this issue. This is possible in Inventor by a " Display Scene Image"check box in the Lighting Styles dialog under Image Based Lighting. But I cannot find anything so far in Showcase. I need this ability to produce images where the background will be a solid color in final document but I want the great reflections too.I know background can be Photoshop'd out but just want to save time. Which is fine, however, I can't find where it actually downloads the files to. Yesterday I switched to the new 2013 trial and now there are no alpha channels in the TIFF files. So here is the workflow I came up with. (I work on a Window XP computer) The task I had to do was: - create a movie from a 3d model created in Inventor - in the movie there were three stages of visibility. Parts of the model had to disappear during playback. - the final movie had to be relatively small in size (not to many Mb) So I imported the model in Showcase. Assigned the materials, set a background. Then I created three different model alternatives, representing the three stages of visibility. Created the shots. Grouped the shots into slides. Per slide I grouped the shots that featured model alternatives. So I ended up with 3 slides. Saved each slide as movie. The next step is to bring the movies into Composite (the only compositing tool installed on my computer, and part of the Autodesk Product Design Suite) Because I wanted to view the motions I rendered as .mp4. So I ended up with 3 .mp4 files. But Composite doesn’t take .mp4. It does take jpeg sequences, or png sequences. The model was pretty heavy – used 6 Gb of Ram just to load it all in Showcase. So instead of rendering again as image sequence, I converted the mp4 to jpg sequence using the free software Avidemux (I didn’t even need administrative rights on the computer to install it :-D ). Imported the footage in Composite. Made the transitions between the shots using the Blend/Comp tool. Rendered the composition to png sequence. Make sure the name of the image files doesn’t contain any points or spaces. Otherwise you will have to rename them afterwards … (like I did) Then I used the free program ffmpeg to glue all the still images together in one .mp4 file. It took me some time to figure out how the program works exactly, because you have to enter the the command in windows command line (Start/Run/Cmd …). You don’t have to install the program either. Just put the ffmpeg.exe file in the folder containing the image sequence. In Inventor, you are able to create contact sets and apply them to certain parts. This is very helpful when animating because most of the time you only have to drive one part and all the rest will follow. What I am wondering is if the contact set will import into showcase or if there is a way to enable it? When i try to import a driven constraint into Showcase 2013, the contact set is not present and my part goes through the parts it is supposed to contact with. Is there a workaround?
