Hey folks,

can anyone give me some information about the export options when
using Showcase?

Is it true that you can only export a Showcase scene to FBX or apf ?
I mean, where is the flexibility??!

Also imagine you have setup up a camera and an enviroment which looks nice.
Is it possible to export the whole scene to Maya
( Camera and Enviroment) in order to get the exact came position and
the enviroment infos?

That would be very cool to create an ibl node inside maya and get the
exact reflection on your model.

Any infos about that?

cheers

naik

Yes, it is true that Showcase can only *export* APF and FBX. FBX is pretty universal, though! The reason (I think) that Showcase can import all kinds of file formats and only export two, is that Showcase is intended to be the “end point” of a visualization presentation process, and not a file translator. Another possible reason is that Maya, Max, and other potential “downstream” visualization tools won’t have the same interactivity and rendering that Showcase has, so something like you describe (where a Showcase file ends up in Maya with the IBL) wouldn’t preserve the “look” of the model, which is the point of presentation visualization. I’ll bet Autodesk is working on this, though…

BTW, if you *really* want to get an environment into Maya, you can just browse to the environment folders and open the environment “dome” APF directly (it will include the scale and reference the textures), then import the “reflect” map in the same folder as an IBL node. Should line up pretty close, but there are many other things to set up in Maya before you’ll get the same “look” of a Showcase render.
