Hey guys!

I’m using Autodesk Showcase 2012 and I’m wondering whether it is possible to make environment with reflective ground.

I searched almost everywhere (google) and I went through the Showcase Help page by page but I found nothing about this topic.

Thank you for replies

Jakub

You have to place a plane on the ground and use raytracing.
When raytracing, remember to modify the reflectivity properties of the plane to have blur reflections.

Thank you for reply.

I assume that the plne you mentioned should be also created in Inventor and imported with model, should’t be?
Or is there any feature in Showcase that creates that type of plane?

You can bring in the plane from Inventor or 3ds Max or whatever is most convenient for you.  It doesn’t have to come in at the same time as your model.

Another idea, or trick, is to mirror duplicate (top-bottom)your entire model and place it beneath a semi-transparent plane (to simulate reflection softening).  You will also need to use a scale-independent environment or lower the floor of your geometric environment. This works pretty well for non-raytraced scenarios and when your model is not too massive for your graphics card. I find the shadows don’t work so well, so you may have to settle for just maximizing your ambient shadow effect.

Wooh, that’s the trick. To be honest I somehow though that software like Showcase have some feature to do it itself (like swich on reflection floor plane in the environment settings) because even simple hw rendering mode in Inventor has this ability.

I’ve tried the one with imported plane. It worked, but I have to improve reflecting material, to look it as reflective ground, but it is the least.

So thank you very much for your help. You’ve saved me a lot of time.
