Hi everyone!

So, I am modeling a liquor bottle in Alias Automotive 2011 and in my alias wire, I have canvas images project onto the model and everything looks okay, but when I bring it into Showcase the images are not carried over between programs.

Is there some way to project your own images in Showcase? I’ve tried messing with decals and such but I am not having any luck and getting images into my rendering.

Any suggestions?

I can package my file if needed

Thanks,
memphischains

EDIT: I’ve tried looking for some tutorials also but I can’t seem to find anything explaining how it can be done. I have defiantly seen a clip in a demonstration video showing that it is possible

No one knows anything about it? D:

I could really use some help on this one!

EDIT: So I kinda figured it out! :D

but does anyone know why the black doesn’t show up with the image? or a method of getting the black back?

EDIT 2: Removed image

So I figured that out too! The one thing I haven’t been able to figure out is because I am projecting it onto glass is have the .tif file not become transparent with the glass.

Anyone know of anything?

Holy cow this place is dead, I’m talking to myself in here

Well, not exactly “dead” but kinda dusty. The forum just opened a short while ago and not many people know its here yet…

So… without an image to refer to, what is the problem? Your projected decal is “transparent” when applied onto an object that already has a glass shader?

EDIT (since it seems to be the thing to do):

I think you mean you are not seeing the “black” portions of the image you’ve applied as a Decal, right?

Okay, you need 2 image files for an image-based Decal in Showcase like the label on a bottle; one is the full color image (which is loaded in the Material “Color” section) and the other is a Grayscale “mask” image (loaded in the Material “Decal” section) where 100% black is “cut out” and 100% white is totally opaque (and shades of gray make semi-transparent areas). If you only load an image into the Decal section, it will cut out any black areas and use the “Color” section of the material for the opaque areas. Does this make sense?

The intention here is that if you want some effect like a blue carpaint star on an object that is otherwise brushed metal material, you’d only use the “Decal” section to maket the star shape and the rest of the material would be the blue carpaint. Try it: apply Brushed Aluminum to an object, select the object, then go to the Car Paint materials section and *right-click* on the “Blue” paint and (from the pop-up menu) choose “Assign to selection as Decal.” Voila!

If you look at the Material Properties of that new Decal (Ctrl-M, when the little green star-shaped “grip” is selected) you’ll see that the “Color” is blue, but the “Decal” is a white star (totally opaque) on a black background (totally transparent).
