I´m working on a Sportsgame and we had a session in a Mo-Cap Studio and got tons of .c3d MoCap files. At the Moment we use Motion Builder to process the Animations and import the files into Maya to export them to XNA. My Question here is there a way to convert the c3d Motion Capture files to the .bip Format (3DSMax Character Studio) ? Maybe exporting from Motion Builder ? I am way better in 3DSMax than Maya so i hope to find a Way to process the Animations in Max.

Hey,

Retarget your c3d data through the Actor to your Biped character in motion builder.  Now use the FBX plugin for 3DMax and import your FBX files using exclusive merge onto your loaded max character, then go to motions in max and covert and save to biped.  Bam! your done and you never had to open Maya at all.  Hope that helps.

I tried this and had a nightmarish effect- On the exclusive merge step, I had all the bones of the BIP character rescaled awfully.  So quickly saving the *.bip file and reloading it to the figure restored it.  (Also, on my test, I made a still frame pose in MB, so after the FBX-import to max, I save the Pose, and reapplied it) Your advice appears to work… just a wee bit of warning about the effect on the bones would have been nice.  ;)

thanks for the tips.

Utz - did it work for you?
