Hi,

I am just wondering if their is any way that you can retarget motion capture on a thin person to a fat character and then let a program detect the geometry intersections and may be even fix them automaticaly, I assume not, but I would also just want to know off any tricks that might automate the process a bit, can I may be set up the fat character to not allow this? Even just a warning when these happen would help. I am new with motionbuilder and any help would be welcome.  Thanks

Hi christian,

i don’t know any way to currently detect intersection and fix them, but my suggestion is that you tweak retargeting options in character settings.

Action Space compensation/Hips Level/Feet Spacing/Mass center compensation… etc.

If you want to get the effect of a fat person, you will probably need to spread the feet a little. You can also add a layer in fcurves, and key the arms so they are a bit further apart from the body, this will act as an additive subtrack in the story, or an offset if you like.

That is my suggestion for the meantime.

the way to do this now is to use the ragdoll in mobu 2010. you can use it to automatically push out the arms form the fatter character.

hi Brad, I’m looking to solve a simlar problem and I was just wondering if you could go into a little more detail about how you’d do this with the ragdoll? Would you make the body of the ragdoll big so the arms avoided colliding with it? Wouldn’t this create alot of vibration?

thanks in advance
