Hello Guys,

im absolutely new in MotionBuilder & 3ds max, but i want to realize this small project:

I got the “Moven Motion Capture Suite” and made some records with moven Studio.
The exported .fbx file works very well in MotionBuilder (my Version is 7.0 PLE).
Now I want to create a model (exactly the same like the sample of MB “mia” - only with other textures) and thought i could modify the mia.fbx in 3dsmax 9.0 only by changing the TIFFs at the “material editor”.
Everything was fine while working with MAX, but the exported .fbx file from 3dsmax doesnt work in MB as character. (i cannot select it at the character conrtrols bar)
all in all: its smaller than the original “mia” character and MB is not identifying the new character, but the texture is modified like it has to be

first question:
is it possible to modify the sample character in 3dsmax 9.0? The Manual of MB only told me to create a character in “another” programm (i found some threads here, where people used maya!?)
second question:
if its possible, could it be, that some data get lost by importing the samplefile “mia.fbx” into 3dsmax?
(how do I import with right preferences?)

it would be great, if someone could help me…

best regards

if all you want to do is change the textures you can do that with out going to max… edit them in motionbuilder or just open the texture files in photoshop ( the fbx file will have another folder .fbm that has the textures in it.

the file you brought back from max just needs to be “characterized” in order for it to be selected from the character picker window.  check the help files on setting up a “chracter” and characterizing the skeleton.

okay, thanks a lot, I will try that easy way.

but:
what is the best way to modify that character? with 3dsmax or an other programm?
i would like to learn to handle that problem with 3dsmax...so i will work the characterisation out…

edit:
okay, the second way doesnt work. After editing in Photoshop and opening in MB the TIFF files have benn overwritten with the original Design.

edit2:
how do I edit the textures of the model in MB? didn found anything :(

edit3:
i found that...it is well explained on users guide page 480
