hi all,

i’m trying to create a simple cgfx shader for motion builder but i have problems as soon as i use lighting.
apparently motion builder doesn’t understand the line

float4x4 WorldXf : WORLD < string UIWidget = “None”; >;

does anyone as already find a way to define the worldxf matrix ?

or does someone know where i can find shader example ?

thank you

ok maybe that’s a little difficult to understand what i’m talking aboiut.

to sum up , i have made a cgfx shader to create an animated blending shader depending on the facial animation .

i have 2 big problems:

the first one is that motion builder is not able to render normal mapping, apparenntly because it has his own syntax to define some parameter like the world matrix. does anyone know where i can find this particular syntax? it seems to be pixel shader 1.4 compatible, but it’s difficult to find documents about it.

the second one is a lot more disturbing. Motion Builder doesn’t seem to be able to initialize the shader correctly. in a word if i save the file and reopen it, the shader won’t work anymore. i must recreate a new one and reload my fx file. i’ve made the shader with Fx composer and the shader works fine in max. does anyone has already saw this and know how to solve it?

is this a known bug of Motion Builder?

thanks

Fred

Are you using Motionbuilder 7.5 EXT2B ? ... They fixed so that cgFx shaders work better in EXT2B. I.e, it no longer adds more data to the shader each time you reopened it. For us, the shaders got really huge with junk data before 2B, but they did in fact continue to work - but I can only assume that a shader written slightly different could break each reopening.

I’ve been playing around with trying to get CGFX shader into Motion Builder all week, load of rubbish lol. I’ve ,managed to get about 45% of the NVIDIA CGFX library files working to various degrees. CGFX from any other source are just fail.

I’ve made a few and it doesn’t seem to like standard or Maya based CGFX...at a complete loss to be honest. There no support or documentation anywhere. Guess we’re stuck with the sucky in-built shaders
