We’ve been having trouble re-arranging the order in which the takes appear listed in the Scene Browser or Navigator. I believe this started with the SP2 update.

The behaviour is very unpredictable, sometimes it will allow you to drag a take name to the top of the list, but not anywhere else. On another session I managed to move a group of takes to the desired position, but on dropping they appeared scattered. Other times it doesn’t work at all.

This used to work flawlessly, either by dragging a single take name or shift-clicking and drag-dropping groups of them. And it’s a must-have feature when working with scenes that have 40+ takes.
Anyone else having these problems?

Thanks

FYI: There is a youtube channel that has free Mobu tutorials , one dealing with take organization in Mobu 2012...mostly basic stuff but some cool tips as well… Check it here if interested http://www.youtube.com/user/TheCGBro.

I found that the fix for the take arrangement problem is corrected with MotionBuilder Hotfix 13 for 2012. MotionBuilder2012_SP2HF13_64bit.msp to be exact. hope that helps.

So rearranging Takes worked in 2012 before SP2.  And while SP2 fixed many bugs it broke something in Navigator and the way it refreshes and handles the order of Takes. If you look at the take drop down menu in your transport controls you will see your takes in the correct arrangement.

I think I have a fix. It worked for me lets see if it works for you.

-First lode in your character or characters into a bran new file.  Starting from scratch is a good way to avoid any bad data.
-Next do a Motion File Import.  This is a clean way to bring in all your animation curves. Doing a merge will most of the time import the bad data causing the problem in the first place.
-Finally check to see if you can re-arrange your take list.

(UPDATE) If you save your file and reopen it you can no longer rearrange your takes

(On a side note)
It sucks that we have to do these work around tricks.  It takes time out of our busy work day to fix problem caused by Autodesk.  I think they would rather start on Mobu 2013 and get us to drop another $2k hoping that these bugs are fixed when half the time they aren’t.
