Got an odd bug (feature?) where clicking anywhere in the viewport window will always select the “hips” of the control rig. Kinda annoying, as the only way to deselect the hips is to click in the schematic window. I can select different parts of the control rig OK, but as soon as I click or drag in an empty space to deselect everything… *plink* it selects the hips again.

Any ideas ?

Hi,

That sounds odd.

I’ve tested with a couple of my own character setups as well as the tutorial characters in MotionBuilder 2012. If I click-marquee select in the Viewer, it de-selects so that nothing is selected in the scene. I can’t reproduce the problem.

The problem may be specific to the scene file you’re working with or workflow- test with one of the generic sample characters to confirm if it’s specific to your setup.
It also may be that the problem is due to the hardware or drivers on the system.  See the following link for information on certified hardware and drivers-

Autodesk MotionBuilder – Certified Hardware-
http://www.autodesk.com/motionbuilder-hardware

If you’re continuing to see the issue and have active Subscription setup for MotionBuilder, you should report the issue to the MotionBuilder support team so that they can investigate the issue further. If you do not have active Subscription setup, you can also submit an automated issue report from within the software, from Help-Report a Problem.

Regards,

Lee

I guess it will work when ref node is set in characterization.

I have the same problem : double click on empty space
selects one set of controllers, marquee drag on empty
space selects another. Always *_Ctrl:* and never
effectors or bones.

The selected pieces (name and number) depend on how the
character is viewed in the viewport (looked from above,
from the sides, etc). Double click always selects 1
thing, drag selects several.

The problem is not present in “Models only” display
mode.

The best workaround I’ve found so far is as follows:

- Double click on empty space, observe how something
gets selected.

- Hide Selected (Shift+H)

- Repeat until nothing else gets selected on double
click.

The hidden bits can still be selected from the
character controls panel.

Other clues:

I had a new scene built from scratch and this selection bug
was not present… until I executed a “Load Character Animation” from this file.

In the newly imported take double clicking on the
background selects “Char_Ctrl:LeftHandThumb4”, while drag
selects the 4th controllers for every single finger.

The bug does not appear in other takes and if the control
rig is in stance pose.
