I’m using 3ds Max 2011 with a CAT rig.

I can export my rigged character, and import into MB 2011.

I can see the bones in the schematic view, but if I go into the perspective view and zoom out as far as possible, I can only see what looks like to be part of a much larger object.

Is there a way to scale or deal with this?  I didn’t see a way scale when I exported the FBX.

Thanks!

Here’s what I’ve tried:

Merge Character from 3ds FBX
Merge FBX template for character
Characterize (using schematic view)
Create control Rig
make control rig active.

In Scene select CharName_CtrlReference

in properties/Scaling, set all three to .002

Now I can see the character properly.

However ... if I merge in ‘Walkaround’ and set the Input to ‘Mia’, the character disappears.

I’m basing this on an old thread that mentioned to add a reference to the characterization, and then scale this.

I thought this was basically what I was doing, as CtrlReference sounds like a reference?

How can I scale the character so that I can use him in MotionBuilder?

couple things may be happening. first of all, the conrol rig reference will always plot to a 1 value regardless if you scaled it up or down. meaning it will retain the new size but sort of freeze the value back to one.. just an fyi if you’re messing with that.

This is sort of a long shot too, but there is a property of objects whether a joint or locator /reference in mobu that compensates scale of parents,
so if you have a weird scale value from your 3ds rig , or some inherent property that’s coming in with your rig, you may try selecting all the branches of your rig from the navigator and change the transformation option (in properties tab) called scale inheritance (change it to local, parent, or scale compensate) and see if one of these options reduces the size of the joints /char to a reasonable size. some things like dof’s and scale and rot order behave a little differently between the programs.

anyways its worth a shot!
