Is it possible to run Motion Builder on one of these cards? I’ve been trying one out and it seems Motion Builder 2011 isn’t handling the new card when Realtime Effects are switched on for cameras. Framerate slows down dramatically below how the card should be performing.

Interested to know if this would be related to the new architecture of the card, which is supporting Open GL 4.1

Thanks

-Kristian

Interest to know what do you mean “Realtime Effects are switched on for cameras”, Motion Blur?

Pretty much eveything that’s available there slows down the rendering - DOF, AA, Motion Blur. The slowdown for these features is dramatic.

In fact, the card doesn’t perform well for Motion Builder generally - even when not using the features under realtime effects. Should have mentioned that in last post.

I have to assume it’s something related to Nvidias Open GL 4.1 implementation. My hope would be that the implementation is backwards compatible and hence the card would run perfectly with Motion Builder. It doesn’t though - and will look instead at an ATI card, the HD5870 which appears tested complete on the compatibility list.

NB: I’ll run PhysX features in software in the meantime :,

Thanks

Hi Kristian,

The real-time camera effects in MotionBuilder, including DOF/Anti-Aliasing etc will typically affect performance regardless of which card you’re using. The issue might be more noticeable if you’re running with an un-qualified driver or there is a problem with the driver.

See the link below for information on tested and qualified Video Cards and Drivers for MotionBuilder:

Autodesk MotionBuilder – Qualified Hardware

As recommendation, try downloading tested driver from same range as you’re running to see if it resolves the problem. For Nvidia and ATI cards, we recommend that users run with a workstation card, there is a disclaimer in the qualifications document regarding this:-

Important: Although Autodesk tested the NVIDIA GeForce and ATI Radeon consumer graphics cards, it is Autodesk, NVIDIA, and AMD policy to only recommend and support the professional NVIDIA Quadro, ATI FirePro, and ATI FireGL graphics family cards.

Best Regards,
