How do I set up ragdoll to be controlled by an animated character ?
eg… If I animated a sphere moving about the scene,.. how do I constrain or link the ragdolls hand to the sphere, so that the sphere drags the ragdoll about ? (or how do you attach a ragdolls hand to an animated hand of a different character in the scene?
Best regards

Hi Brad,
Thank you for the extremely prompt replies !
I’ve been toying around with this now for the better part of the morning hours ! (shovelling snow and making holiday arrangements has been consuming the remainder of my hours!)
Now for part 2 of the question if I may.
When the ragdoll is being carried about by the animated character (this is an actual rag-doll being carried by a young character if it helps to visualize).... The ragdoll is penetrating the characters limbs. How does one prevent this from occuring ?
OT… Also,… will you be releasing a new DVD with content in regards to physics and Mobu ? I only briefly read through your site, and will get back to it afdter the holidays,… just thought you might give me a brief synopsis if you find the time.
Again,
I very much appreciatte your help and knowledge sharing on the forums.
Have a great Holiday
Best Regards
Doug E

You could set up ridged bodies in the limbs (markers set as capsules) that could push the limbs back out and it could collide with but in reality I would worry about that after creating /plotting the data.. Once it is plotted I would just use the layers to offset the points where it penetrates or I would leave the sim. character alone and constrain /use AUX ctrls on the other character to fix up the penetration issues with the sim.
in short Fix it in Post. the layers and aux ctrls work great for doing this kind of work and because the rigs can double solve , you can do things like parent aux ctrls for the young character to the carried character so that they can be offset in the space of the carried character. The limbs then get the simulation movement so that the movement matches up nicely. At the same time you could parent aux. ctrls from the sim. character on to the young character so they both feel connected together.
DVD, not sure if I will have a new one out or not next year… it took a lot of work to make the current one and the target market is small, I have the free 20min tutorial movies coming out once a month here On the Area , and some of this will be covered.
I am also thinking about doing private online training sessions if there is enough interest because that kind of thing is much harder to put on a torrent site.
