I’m having a frustrating time applying a BVH motion capture file to a character.

I’ve got a characterized BVH, and a characterized model (let’s call her “Debby”. I line up the model with the characterized BVH.  However, when I apply the BVH character as input to “Debby”, and then click on the “Character In” button, Debby returns back to the “T” position.

Similarly, if I start by positioning the BVH rig to the “T” position to match Debby, it either a) loses it’s entire animation, or b) goes back to it’s original positiong.

So I can’t get the opening conditions to align, even though I’ve read 3 separate tutorials on how to do it (all of which are out of date).

If I do by some miracle get this to work, how could I adjust the animation without using a control rig? It seems that if you apply a control rig, then the original animation is gone.

Any help appreciated.

I figured it out - you have to push the “key” button after you set up the BVH, before you characterize the BVH.

This tutorial helped:

Next challenge is to figure out how to make my newly animated character into a rig, keeping the animation, so it can easily be adjusted.

Figured out how keep BVH animation and have control rig with character. Just go in the Navigator under “character settings” and hit “plot character”, then plot character to control rig.

Now I (finally) have a rigged character with my BVH animation, ready for adjustments.
