Hello everyone,

please be gentle as I’ve only just started playing with MB and this problem has probably been solved already!

Anyway, I have a rigged model and a dance character animation, I have managed to get the two linked together without any problems but...how do I centre the model/animation to the centre of the grid? The animated character is not centered and starts off on the edge of the grid, if I chose frame 0 and move it to the centre it moves back to it’s original position as soon as I start to play it....it’s driving me mad......

Thanks.

Hi Pete,

There are a couple of different ways to reposition your character. The easiest way to centre your character is to use “Move Keys” in the Key Controls window.
1. Select the root of your character
2. Set the Translation and Rotation to GLOBAL space
3. In the Fcurves window frame all the keys (press A with your pointer over the FCurve window)
4. Highlight the Translation and Rotation filters in the properties pain on the left side of the FCurves window.
5. Right click in the FCurve pain and choose “Select All” from the pop-up menu.
6. With the root of your character still selected move it to the correct position or type in zero values for the X,Y,Z Rotations and the X and Z Translations. (DO NOT change Y or your character will be below the ground)
7. Click “Move Keys” in the Key controls window. MotionBuilder will alter the value of the FCurves so your character will remain at the new location.

Let me know how you get on

Mo
