Hi guys!

Is there a way to freeze the translate coordinates like in Maya?

F.e.:
I’ve got a marker for an eye control at 17.0,21.0,18.0 which is its default position, it would be neat if I could freeze the coordinates so I would have 0.0,0.0,0.0 for the default position. A workaround would probably using a null-object and animate in local space…

thx and cheers caist

Hi Caist,

As far as I know there is no way to freeze or reset transforms in MotionBuilder after import of FBX. In general, I wouldn’t recommend doing this in Maya/3ds Max before export to other application. I’ve seen issues with this previously when exporting data to game engine with the transforms being offset after reset and export from 3ds Max.

As you mention, you could use a null as child in hierarchy and animate it in LCL transform mode- the default view in Fcurves window is always LCL. You could also look at using Property References to view the transform properties on another object or setup constraints if you want to animate on a null or dummy instead.

Best Regards,

Lee
