I have a strange problem since today.

Working on a dual core XP64 bit system, 4GB, NVidia 8800 GT, dual monitors (24").

I arrange motionfiles and audio clips in the story line, comparable to video edit, to build an animatic.
So far, everything - beside minor problems - worked out fine, I could render the files, open , edit..

but since this evening, when I open any file, no matter how big the scene was, the screen starts to flickes as soon i open the Story window. Even if the scene is empty and i add a sound file, it crashes - undependantly from the soud file.

Motionbuilder then dropps an errormessage about the nvidia open gl settings, something like:
NVidia OpenGL Driver

Error 12

... memory could not be “read”

I already reinstalled MoBu, I updated the nvidia driver.., but nothing helped.

When I try to open the file on another computer, the scene crashes as soon as I try to reconnect the audio.
Loading a single .wav into MobU also lets it crash.
But this must be another problem, I guess.

But one problem that always occurs is that the programm stops working sometimes when it comes to computing audio peaks on import of audio files. I already deactivated this feature, tried other settings, but the problem comes up again and again.

I hope anyone of you has an idea!

Chris

I figured out, I can open the file as long the story window is not open. Then i can delete all audio files in the navigator.. now i can open the story window again!
But as soon I load an audio file into the story audio track, motionbuilder crashes again with that nvidia message.

I’m happy to say, I solved the problem.

In general, i think motionbuilder really has some issues with sound files. I had it quite often that it got stuck while computing the audio peaks. Pressinng esc before it hung up helped, but anyway i had to reconnect the audio and then it stopped when computing peaks again.
I changed some settings in the config files in /bin/config, for example in the *.application.txt file, as i had quite a lot of separate audio files that needed to be in scene.

Changes I made:

[Audio]
LoadmemoryMax = 24 ; MB to load more audio into memory
SoftwareBufferCount = 32

[AudioDisplay]
AutoBuildPeaks = Yes
Precision = 10
MaxAllocSize = 15 ; default is 0.5, but then Mobu stopped working after loading several audiofiles
detailsPriority = 7 ;

I figured out that my scene or teh story window could not open properly when the AutoBuildPeaks was off -but at least that opened the scene.
I finally found a folder named Scene.fm, where all my audio and media was stored. It was a relict from a error save i madde by mistake, as it asks to embed the media when saving the file. Also i saved newer versions under other names wothout having that checked, it seemd to keep some cross references.

I wondered all the time when an audio file opened in a new scene, building the peaks, but when loading the old scene, again hung up at an audio file that worked before.

After having deleted that folder, i had to repair some references and reimport some files, but now the scenes work again.

So in the end I think, MoBu had problems with all these crosslinked media which caused problems when loading the peak files for display in the story window.

I hope this all helps if you encounter similar problems.

Hi PM,

when you say:

‘’I am starting to have the same problem ‘’

you mean: having Motionbuilder pop the error message? or the ficker? or the crash? or all these answers?

it could possibly be linked to your customization of the application.txt file....

which mobu version are you using?

would you want to send me a bug scene so i check it when i have some time?

GF

im having the error message and the crash but without the flicker.

the only customization in the application.txt was the fix seen higher but it didnt fix it.

we use motion builder 2009 with quadro FX 3700 driver version 8208. i just installed the 8246 drvier version to see if i still get the crash if so i will send the file…

thanks
