Hey anyone,
I have my rigging set up on my model and have skin binded the two, and now i am trying to use the paint skin weights tool, but when i click on the model and then on the tool, the model doesn’t turn black like it’s supposed to, which makes me think something is wrong.  It is a large model, but I don’t know if that has anything to do with it.  Does anyone know anything about this?  Thanks.

Are you in shaded mode with the Default Quality Rendering set for the viewport? High Quality Rendering and Viewport 2.0 don’t work.

Yes, I am in shaded mode and have the default quality rendering set.

It is possible that you have the feedback turned off in the tool itself. In the tool settings make sure Color Feedback is checked. Beyond that does your geometry node have a skinCluster node on it?

Hey thanks for the replies.  The feedback is turned on, and the geometry node does have a skincluster node… I just can’t figure it out.  Thanks for the feedback.

Two items to look at:

1) Are you by chance in Component Mode vs. Object Mode...that would have the effect you are talking about. F8...reselect...Skin>Edit Smooth Skin>Paint Skin Weights Tool

2) Make sure Color Feedback is checked under the Display Option on the Paint Skin Weights Tool Options. (I am using 2009, not sure what version you are using.)

Hope this helps,
M

I found if I flipped between the DQ Blend Weight/Skin Weight options in the type pulldown menu, found in the Painting attributes box, it would somehow refresh the painting display.  Make sure you’re not stuck in paint selection mode either, I had a devil of a time with that.
