The two I'm missing the most are Flow Connect and Set Flow. Can either of these be achieved in the same fashion that max does, either natively or with some sort of mel script? Sometimes importing a maya expoorted OBJ in another package gives me an error saying: "Different number of vertices and normals"...anyone knows what that means and if there is a way to fix it on the maya side? I thought that every vertice had a normal and i cant really understand how the numbers of vertices and normals can be differrent....Thanks alot. /Kasper 2012-02-07T18:00:06+01:00 Imported surface error http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-maya/modeling/imported-surface-error/page-last/ http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-maya/modeling/imported-surface-error/page-last/#When:14:36:02Z I have a STEP file I imported that's giving me some bad surfaces. When I select the surface, the selection line shows the correct shape, but the actual material is very different. This makes my model look like it has holes in it. Is there a way to repair the surfaces that have these holes? I've included pictures showing the problem. Thanks in advance! I used Lightwave 3d previously and I could easily open my models in Modeller and choose the polygons etc. and give them new name to apply texturessurface. Is there similar functionality in Maya? Thanks. 2012-02-07T13:11:38+01:00 Noob with maya http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-maya/modeling/noob-with-maya/page-last/ http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-maya/modeling/noob-with-maya/page-last/#When:10:00:47Z hello guys, i ve been using blender since last year, but i ve enrolled in an art and game school called saga here in brazil, they use the autodesk maya, while my class will start in april/may, i ve decided to download a trial version to train, but i am having troubles so far. unlike blender i can´t let just one vertex, i must always let 3 vertex at last, otherwise it won´t delete, i have even problems when extruding, when I select 1 vertex, instead of extruding just 1, it will create 2 or 3 vertex, probably to make a face. a guy in other forum said that there is no way to let only one vertex in the screen, there is really no way out? 2012-02-04T10:00:47+01:00 Mirror Geometry not merging vertices and always merging meshes http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-maya/modeling/mirror-geometry-not-merging-vertices-and-always-merging-meshes/page-last/ http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-maya/modeling/mirror-geometry-not-merging-vertices-and-always-merging-meshes/page-last/#When:08:39:51Z Hi all, I tried to mirror a simple poly cube with the Mirror Geometry tool but it seems i can't make it work correctly. After I create the poly cube, I click on the options box of the Mirror geometry tool. If I check -X, "Merge with the original" and "Merge veretices", Maya mirrors the cube on the X axis, merges the meshes but doesn't merge the common vertices (those on the mirror axis). So at the end of the mirroring process I have a mesh with 16 vertices (8+8 of the two cubes). But there should be only 12 vertices because the vertices on the mirror axis should be merged. I tryed to change the treshold value in the attribute editor (poly mirror node), i tried to delete the history but nothing. The other wrong thing that happens when mirroring is that if I uncheck "Merge with the original", after the mirroring process I see only one mesh in the outliner. So it is as if "Merge with the original" didn't work. I know that there's the duplicate special tool that allows mirroring but i'd like to understand if the wrong behaviour of the Mirror Geometry tool is common to other users or if i'm doing something wrong. I pressed on F8 to get into the component mode and still can't rotate the axis. Here's the video I capture to show my problem. Appreciated for any help. Maya looks awesome but there are some tools that I just can't find. Firstly I can not find anything like the Windows/crossing tool that I use all the time in 3ds max. I know AutoCad has it too so I assume Autodesk have added something similar since they took over Maya. Another thing that I just don't get is how to scale on 2 axis at once. For instance in 3ds Max there is a line connecting the x to the y axis that you can select to scale x and y simultaneously. Transform type in This tool i used constantly in Max to get objects in the correct position. I realize that Maya is more of a freehand sort of thing but I can not believe that there is no way to move an object 200mm along the x axis. There are lots more that I just can't think of right now. I did not think I would have to create a new thread for this as there are so many people who use both packages but I have not been able to find any good resources that help one move from Max to Maya. Thanks for any help. :D 2012-02-03T09:20:35+01:00 Keep faces together does not work as it should http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-maya/modeling/keep-faces-together-does-not-work-as-it-should/page-last/ http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-maya/modeling/keep-faces-together-does-not-work-as-it-should/page-last/#When:20:10:34Z Im relatively new to Maya however Im pretty sure that 'Keep faces together' when extruding does not work correctly in 2012. Well not on my mac anyhow. If you wish to replicate my problem here is my workflow- Create cube poly > make some subdivisions> select some faces> extrude with 'keep faces together" unchecked> Select a face and use move tool, notice that faces will move apart as they should> Now select some more faces> extrude with 'keep faces together' checked this time> select a face and use move tool> notice how face is still separate as it SHOULD NOT be. Please let me know if you manage to replicate this issue. And also if you think Im doing something wrong.
