I like 2011 very much, BUT there is a problem with the transfer maps. Out of range: 0. Need to go into create camera to try and work. Have reset every thing and still broke. HELP. Windows Vista x64 AMD Quad 2.8

Found a fix. It was posted as to bring back all defaults. In /User/####/documents/maya/2011-x64/prefs delete userprefs.mel and restart maya. Simple.

seems like many people are having issues running 2011 on mac. but i haven`t had any major issues on 10.5.8.
actually i should say i`m very impressed by the 64bit feature for mac version. it`s not fake it`s really 64bit!

this scene contained about 8 million polygons. tested this on maya 2010. both maya and batch render crashed (also terrible viewport). tried maya 2011 64bit, no problems.

The Human IK in Maya 2011 ignores the scale. I have mine set to meters, below is a picture of what happens when you create a rig with meters set. Changing to centimeters works fine, however, so I think the code is assuming centimeters is always used.

This is what you get when the preferences is changed to centimeters:

I was able to reproduce this. This issue is now logged and we are looking into a fix.

I just switched back to Maya 2010 to see how much quicker the UI is compared to 2011 and it is blazing light speeds faster. I am on a Mac running 10.6.3 - (2011 was having the same slow UI issues with 10.6.2) I really hope this gets fixed soon cause this really sucks. Switching viewports takes 2-3 seconds where as in 2010 it happens in the blink of an eye. Lame :(

I like the darker bg and dockable windows. Inclusion of pyMel is great.
But the broken CE (Hide Zero Columns doesn’t work, as reported by others in this thread), has me back in 2010 to paint weights.  I may have to stay there for other work as well since the files aren’t completely compatible (I don’t expect them to be, but I don’t expect to have to use 2010 - which is basically 2009)
How could you miss this?  Can we copy the CE script from the 2010 install to restore this feature to 2011?  If so, please tell us how.
Also, Paint Weights Tool/RMB/Paint Weights (for selecting joints) is missing.

I haven’t tried much else, but disappointed that weight painting is degraded - I’m paying almost $4/day x x2years for my subscription, 2010 was almost void of new features, and now this.

This one a long time have I watched. All his life has he looked away… to the future, to the horizon. Never his mind on where he was. Hmm?
Deliver us some solid software.
I’d lose my clients if I delivered like you do.

I agree on the component editor zero fields issue being a big problem. Even a small rig with fingers has 50 bones or so, looking through all of the columns for tiny values that don’t belong is tedious, at best. Selecting all of the affected vertices for a joint is so easy in 2011, only to have this aggravation.

Lest I sound completely grumpy, the ramped colorization of the weighting is also very nice, I look forward to using it when the CE is fixed…

"Paint Weights Tool/RMB/Paint Weights (for selecting joints) is missing.”

Are you sure? It’s not missing just renamed to “Select Influence”.

In the subscription forum, someone also suggested this, but I don’t see where “select influence” is located:

I REALLY hope you guys will make it a priority to fix the Component Editor.

While there is no minimize button here, either, for the attribute or toolbox or the channel box, you can double-click on the title-bar of any of them to make it a floating window or if already floating to make it dock. I think that is pretty useful behavior. Just going to take a little while to get used to things being different… I often suffer from those old dog training issues.

well , i prefer it when you can minimalise floating windows, i work on a duel screen and so all of the attribute, outliner, render view, etc and any other open window (sometimes playing a movie!) are on one screen and so i can have the main view on the other for maximum use of the view port , and with the minimize button you could open and close floating windows alot easier than docking and re docking as is the case now . why on earth would you change that?
dont fix which ain’t broken.

I would trade any combination of 20 new features in Maya 2011 for a shadow render pass that works correctly with mental ray materials.

Having to render shadows on a separate layer, instead of a separate pass, needlessly increases scene complexity and doubles render times which get out of control with GI/FG.  It is particularly annoying since the shadows are there in the MasterBeauty, but there is no way to save them out with mr materials.

Any idea when a shadow pass for mia_x_passes materials will be added?
