Questions for a newbie to Composite?

Working in a linear order (Bottom Layer Top - Left to Right etc) I have a render consisting of:

Reflection
Refraction
AO
Lighting from Sun & Sky - GI
Specular
Shadows
Diffuse

What is the correct (general order) order that these these RE’s would be layered & what Blend & Comp Mode would be assigned to each (eg. shadows = multiply) etc.

Would I need to add a lighting RE as well?

Hope this is a straight enough Q?? Save me a lot of testing if someone can point me in the right order, can’t find any clear - straight forward tutes, forum posts or examples to the general practice of this process.

Funny I can’t find a general guide to this setup as this seems to be the basis of 3D comping for which to add/swap/modify RE’s to go off or build from?

Guide for recomposition are the same for photoshop, nuke, toxik, fusion, you can find lot of them.

You can use mathops or directly blend&comp (img schem06) witch will give you more controls in the same node.
Basically, if your GI ever contrain diffuse information :
(Diffuse+GI) + reflect + refract + spec (img schem04)

Shadows is a bit different, you can supress them from diffuse, but it isn’t an element in the same way as others. (img schem07)

PS : Nodes posters are black because this one on a linear exr with a vLUT.

Thanks for taking the time to explain.

I must be searching in all the wrong places using the wrong search names, I even put in “Guide for recomposition” as you call it and ended up looking through 15 odd pages of body parts links ;)

Can post some of those links that you mention that would be a great help!

Be great if you could try again to post some other time Mark.

It could be possible that I’m getting stuck with some of my RE settings? I’ll render out my scene when I get the chance and show some Composite screen grabs which might be more helpful in explaining my problem.

Cheers

If you get that stupid “Regenerating page” when you post, press back and then resubmit the post and it should work.
