| Copy / Paste Vertex Positions
|
|
|
It’s easy enough using 2.5D vertex snap.
|
|
|
|
Ok...the 2.5d snap method uses over 9 button clicks to set up before you start snapping, the object has to be in line with the grid/view/axis, and you have to use a straight on view ....quite a faff really. Is there a way to use this in the perspective viewport ?
@Swahn_Kung Many thanks for the scripts, very very useful. I’ve assigned V & B to copy & paste on the Z axis.....this is great when working on curved edges that cross the axis, and I can work it the perspective viewport. I’m working on an f1 track and this will save me tons of time.
As far a modifying the script goes.....no chance,:) I come up with ideas and harass other people to code them ;)

@Samab - that is awesome… could not get this working in a perspective viewport is there a trick I am missing there?

@Samab ... too many clicks ;)
@Blakestone He’s working in the left viewport.
I always work full screen, this is a perfect, quick and slick method to align verts that matches my workflow.
@Swahn_Kung,
The only way I can think of optimizing your script is to make it copy first selected vertex position and paste into the second selected vertex position, or better still like target weld method but using axis constraints & your position script...possible ?

I usually, for this operation mode, use snap axis constraint in conjunction with vertex snap mode. I use snap mode 3d and select only Vertex, then with Shift+right-click choose -Snaps use axis Constraints- in quad menu. Select first vertex and snap with the vertex target in any axis I want…

Care to share with a screen grab video of the process ? It’s much easier to have the “Over the shoulder Look” than to try and decipher a text explanation.

Less text..more video...love it , best way to learn imho :)

As a result of this discussion I approached a coder and this is the first version of a Target Align Script.
Coded by Insanto. Script is available Here
I just got it this morning and threw a quick demo vid on youtube
Please leave feedback on this script, on how it can be improved etc. I’m well impressed with it, but I think it lacks precision, although after a few goes, you get the hang of it ;) enjoy…

Ok, now I understand. But that isn’t what you asked in your original post. Re-read that post and you’ll see what I mean - a “position” is a Point3 value - X, Y and Z - hence my dismal lack of understanding ;)
Vid will require the TSC codec.
I have tried that exact process, even recreating the object in your scene, and fiddled with every setting available in the snaps settings… and it just doesn’t work. it won’t snap to anything, I don’t even get any guide lines. the only thing that changes is there is a little grey circle at the center of the selection. Please help.. why are snaps not working for me??
