Register for Excalibur (XBR) webinar

Posted by Ken Pimentel, 15 January 2010 2:23 pm

Join Autodesk Product Management and Development for a special webcast where we’ll unveil our plans for Project Excalibur (XBR). XBR is a restructuring of 3ds Max that is intended to occur over three phases. It addresses fundamental improvements in workflow, UI, and performance. 3ds Max 2010 is part of Phase I, and elements of XBR in the release include the visual quality of the viewport, the use of metasl, and new UIs. 3ds Max 2010 was a launching pad for XBR, but there’s still much more to come. Attend this webcast and get a sneak peak at the future of 3ds Max.

This 60 minute webinar is scheduled only forJanuary 27th and is only availabe at 9AM, 5PM and 8PM EST. This session will not be repeated. We apologize in advance if you can't make these times. We hope to record one or more of the sessions, if we're succesful, we'll post where you can find them.

By clicking on one of these links you'll register for the appropriate session. All times are Eastern time zone.

9am - https://admin.na4.acrobat.com/_a830048726/xbr9am/event/event_info.html

5pm - https://admin.na4.acrobat.com/_a830048726/xbr5pm/event/event_info.html

8pm - https://admin.na4.acrobat.com/_a830048726/xbr8pm/event/event_info.html

I hope everyone is set up for the meeting. You should have received an invite from us by now (if not, then reregister). The invite asks you to register at the Adobe-based meeting center. Once the meeting time arrives, we'll open the doors to everyone and people will see the presentation. You have to be logged into the adobe site to see the presentation.

If you have not registered for this event or did not get an email, please go to one of the following links to register:
5pm - http://adinc.na4.acrobat.com/xbr5pm/event/registration.html
8pm - http://adinc.na4.acrobat.com/xbr8pm/event/registration.html

You CANNOT join without registering first.

Note: We cannot talk about specific features being delivered with specific dates. This is not permitted for financial accounting reasons. So, we will not talk about the following:

  • When any features will arrive, we will only talk about phases that we're targeting and a phase does not equal a release
  • We will not talk about specific feature details, we will talk about goals we want to achieve and some of the benefits of those goals
  • If you're attending to learn what the next release might have, you will be dissapointed because we cannot even confirm the existance of a future release
  • We will not talk about specific industries or tools for those industries

What we will do:

  • We will talk broadly about what we want to achieve with 3ds Max over several phases and show you some of our ideas for the future
  • What we show you is not a complete picture of what we're researching, it is a subset of core efforts that we call XBR, we will only be discussing XBR
  • We hope to take questions via an email/chat interface, details aren't yet available

We want to make sure we're setting the right expectations. Unfortunately, we have to limit certain conversations due to financial accounting rules so this is not a complete reveal of every detail of our roadmap for the next several years. You should walk away from this with a general understanding of what we think some big problems are and things that we hope to solve over the next several years.

will it be recorded and available for watching after the fact? This isn't clearly answered by your use of the word "only".

Good question. We'll see what we can arrange it (and if it is permitted).

I've updated my blog with more details about what we will and won't talk about. I can see from the webinar registrations that some people are expecting us to reveal more details than we are allowed.

I wish I could see it. January 27th is busy for me, I can't make those times unfortunately. I'm joining to antimatt3r's post. Will it be recorded?

Oh, I didn't notice that the question about recording was already answered. Sorry

Not everyone is a Max geek - I came in late to the session and read on the chat screen that one might want to upgrade their video card. I did not get the full answer and asked this question and got a VERY rude response. It would not have taken but a second to answer it - instead of a rude response. I think that no matter what level you are in using Max - there should be some respect for the novice people. We are only trying to learn!

That was a very informative presentation! I'm glad to see such enthusiasm, not only from the users but also from the developers as well!

I think they've got a bit swamped in a down pour of questions there and were typing very fast to answer as much as possible...

Yep...very informative...best part was "Ken's mind" shutting down. I have to admire your persistence answering the questions for details.. "when" and "what" and "how".
The anoying part was, that all these useless question made it difficult and almost impossible for the participants of the webinar to follow the chat. The scrolling on the left side was awesome.

I would propose to not allow question during the show and just enable them during Q & A. Collect the good questions and publish them and the answers here in the blog.

Sorry if I offended anyone - but the UI would allow me to barely type and it took seconds for a "return" to register. We should definitely hold questions until the end - that wasn't much fun for me.

@ Ken : Quote "..- that wasn't much fun for me."
Yeah... that's different like all the customer company shows... Today you were thrown into the arena of hoi polloi.. the common crowd!

However we were all glad you showed up!
Thanks

re: meshbase
I love talking to people (I've been known to show up on a forum or two). I just died trying to respond with a UI that simply wasn't usable due to the lags.

Ken - awesome! Really excited about the interoperability between things. We currently use both Maya and Max and hopping back and forth is always a struggle. Even down to trying to remember hot keys between - ACA,Revit,Max and Maya I have nightmares. Thanks for the glimpse into your ideas glad it is right where i was hoping!
